About a mile and a half from Jefferson Street Mansion, roughly five minutes by car. It's walkable in around half an hour if you're up for it, but plan on driving or splitting a ride the night of.

Rooms are spacious and come with a microwave and mini fridge, and a few have spa tubs if you want to treat yourself. There's an outdoor pool and hot tub, free parking, and free WiFi. Breakfast is the thing guests rave about, a full hot spread with a waffle machine and all the fixings. Dogs are welcome if you're driving up with one. You're also a short walk from the shops and restaurants downtown.

Best Western Plus Heritage Inn

Rooms come with a fridge, microwave, and air conditioning, and some have a sofa bed that sleeps four if you're traveling with kids. There's a fitness center, an outdoor pool, and a bistro in the lobby serving breakfast, dinner, and drinks. If you collect Marriott points, this is the one on our list that earns them.

Two things worth knowing before you book: breakfast is not included and runs about $15 a person, and parking has a fee. The hotel has been in and out of renovation recently, so call ahead to confirm what's open during your stay.

Courtyard by Marriott Vallejo Napa Valley

About 25 to 30 minutes from Jefferson Street Mansion, heading south over the Benicia-Martinez Bridge. It's the furthest option on our list, so you'll want a car or an Uber, and there's a toll on the drive down.

What you get for the distance is downtown Walnut Creek. You can walk to restaurants, bars, and shopping, which makes it a good pick if you're making a weekend of it rather than just sleeping somewhere. Rooms are comfortable and clean, with air conditioning and a mini fridge. There's a well-equipped gym, an outdoor pool, and a restaurant and bar on site. It's a Marriott, so it earns points. The BART station is a short walk away if you're flying into the city and skipping the rental car.

Walnut Creek Marriott
